Future of Monstar Lab

Well Youn Ji and I just finished up finals last week and have been quite busy with other classes. I have been especially busy and have yet to edit the last show with our professor, Tom Igoe. I will be working on these shows in May. May 8th and 9th is the NYU's Interactive Telecommunication Program's Spring Show where we will be presenting our three final articles of clothing (one-piece dress and two remixed t-shirts).

So after talking with Tom Igoe in our last show (soon be uploaded this May), we talked about what was the core of our project and that was to inspire other DIY online users to think about materials that are often considered trash and make something. So after talking with Youn Ji and proving that this design challenge can offer successful outcomes, we wanted to create a dedicated site for DIYers to post videos, images and audio to share with the community.

We understand that DIYers are also range different skill levels so Youn Ji and I wnt to archive video tutorials to just start newcomers and offer others to add to the archives with other skills that Youn Ji and I dont have. I will also be making tutorials on video production and sharing my experiences with others.

We hope that we have proven that 'trash' is not actually trash but materials that still have worth. We also want everyone to share their creative works with others in hope to inspire others. if you have any questions or comments please email Youn Ji and me at monstarlab@gmail.com.

Poster Designs

I have designed two posters for the ITP Spring 2007 show. Joo Youn and Christin, both graduating ITP 2nd years helped out modeling for our sustainable practice final. Here is the one-piece dress that Youn Ji made.

Youn Ji's Sketches

I had quick Fashion illustrations for laying out our actual result. Fashion illustration is like a preview to allow you to get the air of the design before you see the real clothes eventually. Designer can usually specify to not only their customers, but also themselves the most of the information of their design through this process. So Fashion illustration has to be able to convey the information of the garment, and details in various drawing styles. Plus, it highly tends to be art piece itself, though it functions as blueprint. Since those reason, it's a little shame to post this rough sketch. I had, however, great moment to going backward to my old background and recalling every steps of Fashion design while I made this.
Actually, it's almost considered as a independent field taken apart from its mother part which is Fashion design, and I was very much into this field as well.
So, please take advantage of me, if you have any kinds of questions about more specific process of Fashion illustration.

I'd like to give all the audiences a little excuse of me, Youn Ji, being in a little calm air during this 'pattern maker' session as you might noticed. You know when you're too sick to even eat and sleep. I was just like that during we through this session quite awhile. =(
It's a little weird to watch, but I hope you could have fruitful information and inspiration from this session. ;)

Where's the Show?

Hey folks, We hit a slight problem along the way. Our lovely fashion designer, Youn Ji got sick after Spring Break, so we had to postpone our weekly video. Last week, Youn Ji and I prepared the pattern for our one piece outfit. Youn Ji finished taking apart a curtain donated and finished cutting out the pattern for the one piece dress. It was alot of work then I expected. I am editing the video now so hopefully this week we have a new video. If you have any questions or comments please email us at monstarlab@gmail.com.
